Intro

Youthtown's art studio is a non competitive space where children, older children and community groups can come explore, discover and create.
Youthtown's successful programme is well established in the community and is a haven for many local children and groups.
The programme constantly reflects the cultural diversity of Aoetearoa and has multi cultural focus.
Experienced tutors set art appropriate projects and work along side the children and groups to support there imagination and creative path.
In the studio artists have exposure to a variety of mediums- painting, sculpture, photography and the studio has specialised equipment on cite for clay, printmaking and textiles.
In an effort to be inclusive we also take art projects out of the studio, to community events, such as The Grey Lynn Fest and Summer in the City.

Youthtown art studio offers these programmes-
After school Art Clubs, Schools workshops, Holiday Art Programme, Saturday morning Art House, Pottery Classes for adults, community events, team building workshops, Special needs workshops, Staff training workshops, alternative education- SPACE, starship holiday Programme.

-Transport and cost vary according to materials and tutor needs.

Values

Youthtown believes that every one is an artist.
We are running a Programme in accordance with the Youthtown values. Due to the commitment and funding from the management of the Youthtown Organisation the Art Studio is able to offer a creative experience to a wide range of community groups through our extensive programming.

  • We set age appropriate art projects, so children can have as much control over their creative investigation and art work.
  • We encourage children to try new mediums, methods and equipment.
  • We take every care to provide a safe but stimulating environment for all ages to follow their own creative path.
  • We believe that art is an outward expression of an inward investigation. Art can be used as a therapeutic activity, giving the artist a greater sense of self achievement.
  • We believe children's recreation time is precious.
  • We see the creative process as a part of the world of Math and Science, where discoveries are made which require similar problem solving and methodology.
  • We believe in respecting children's work and valuing their processes.
  • We value the children's input into the planning of their art programme.
